Nick Castle’s Childhood Food Memory

About the Recipe

When I was growing up in an Italian Catholic family in Los Angeles in the 50s, I went to school every day and ate a salami sandwich. The salami sandwich was made with Italian salami bread. It was cut in half, put in a plastic bag, and then I ate it - no condiments. Dry. Every day except for Friday.

Friday was of course for a Catholic - no meat day - the saddest day of the week.

Ingredients

  • Salami

  • Italian bread

  • Plastic baggy

Preparation

  1. Make the sandwich.

  2. Cut it in half.
